Welcome to abelskin!✨💋🦂

This beauty-centric newsletter is brought to you by former Allure editor, future beauty mogul, current K-beauty and beauty branding expert Devon Abelman aka abelwoman.

Beauty has never not been intrinsic to my existence. In kindergarten, I even got in trouble for cutting someone’s hair while playing hair salon with my friends. (Who’s to say she didn’t need a little trim?)

Even though I pored over the beauty sections in all my favorite teen magazines and started stealing my mom’s monthly Allure as soon as I could read, I honestly never knew I could become a beauty editor. All I knew was that I wanted to be a magazine editor in New York City.

A month before graduating from the University of Florida in 2014, I started applying for any entry-level magazine job I could find, including beauty assistant at Parents. Two weeks after receiving my diploma, my career as the Internet knows it now began.

In a tumultuously terrifying world, beauty is far from a trivial indulgence. I firmly believe beauty is far from superficial. Not only is it inherently political, but it’s also essential to our well-being and acts as a universal language. It allows us to take time to care for ourselves, explore who we are and who we want to be, and connect with people from all around the world. I look forward to delving into the multifaceted meanings beauty holds in my life and sharing these insights with you via your inbox!

Shout out to model and co-founder of skincare brand Protéger, Peter Clarkson, for the perfectly playful name.

Get ready for:

  • Unbiased skincare product recommendations (no one is paying me to do anything on this thing unless noted otherwise)

  • Beauty trends you’re about to see everywhere

  • K-beauty reporting you won’t find anywhere else
