NY summers have two settings: oven or sauna. Either way, you’ll sweat enough to fill a kiddie pool just walking one block. If you even catch me outside, I’m 100% wearing as little as possible on my 5-foot-1 person—even on my face.

Foundation isn’t my thing 365 days a year, so that’s not a concern come summer. I’ve also been hating mascara lately, so all I wear on my face (sans toner, serum, and moisturizer) is sunscreen and a tint. Plus, going eye makeup-free is super chic if you ask me. I love how fresh and vibrant my face looks without anything on my eyes this summer. I can’t believe we’re living in a timeline where I proudly say that, but here we are, kids.

Obviously, sunscreen should be a non-negotiable part of everyone’s daily routine, but I take sun protection seriously. If I’m going outside, a slathering of lightweight SPF all over my face and body is coming with me. And me being me, some sort of color also needs to be on my face. Because I’m constantly reapplying sunscreen, that color has to be just as fast and easy to swipe on. Luckily, tints and stains are abundant these days.

Very mindful, very cutesy, very demure.

I’ve been trying to think of a cutesy name for this 2-step routine, but I’m coming up short. ChatGPT suggested SunKiss Duo (ew, no), Bright & Bare (eh), Sunny Smile (what?), and Fresh & Flushed (I don’t hate it). No matter what it’s called, I have a very specific set of products I reach for to accomplish said objectives.
